richp I usually smack the clip a few times on it's ends with a small drift pin, once it spins a bit it's easier to remove.

jpdocdave ^ya i know what you're saying, but i just get it to move about an 1/4" then i just pry them up so they don't go flyin. i used to hate doing those, now its nice and easy. that's the way that stuff is though. learning curve.

slf41002 Yeah that is fun to watch that clip fly across the room at 50MPH after useing the air hammer to pop it out.

jpdocdave the non abs have smaller cups to don't they? anywho, its a common headache. i do so many its second nature. and you probably don't have access to this, but i use a small sharp chisel bit on my air hammer and they pop out in no time, takes finess to work the air hammer just right but thats what i do. or else like already said, pb blaster, and hammer the cup away from the clip you're trying to get out.

good luck

slf41002 Ok question! Do you press yours in and out or use a hammer and brass dowel to knock out??Either way try to push the joint cup in some from one side to see if it helps you get to them better.Normally I smack the cup a time or two before I try the clips. This loosens them up some.

AzTJ If it comes down to it you can swap out the shaft and replace later... but why do that again when the u-joint is replaced?

Like guns said, soak it with some pb blaster, over night if needed.

guns-r-us pb blaster or kroil.
let soak, then they should come out with needlenose pliers.

Stupid u-joint clips

Okay so I had to pull the hub and axle out to replace a u-joint. No big deal, and I would have been done in a flash, but the the circle clips are seem rusted in place. Any thoughts on what to use on these, the old flat head screw driver is getting me nowhere fast. I do have complete spare shafts, but the one's I took out are ABS, and the spares are not.. what say ya all about a temp fix with the non abs shafts?
