A d35 has a black plastic/rubber plug and is round shaped (also make sure that if it does have the metal plug the case is also hexagon, not round like the pic... aftermarket covers usually come w/ a metal plug so..), a D44 will have a metal plug also be hexagon.

Over here all Saharas have rear D44s, A/C, auto tranny, top-in-top, CD-radio ad more.

|Mooseman||Don't take the salesmen's word on it, he probably doesn't know or care which diff it has. Take a look for yourself. Look under the rear bumper at the differential cover, if it has a metal fill plug it's a Dana 44, if it has a plastic pop in plug its a Dana 35. There's a thread about 3 pages back labled "Axle Identification" that has some excellent info.|

|Triple88a||Check which one has the D44.. if the x has the 44, go with that. I assume since the sahara has the "towing package" it would have the stronger diff (d44)|

|scotiez||I have a 2003 X and i love it. But i also have a hard top. I wouldn't be with out one, especially in the winter. I also have a manual trans, which is just fine for me. I don't do any rock crawling for it to matter. So If your lookin for a soft top and hard top, and you don't mind shifting then buy the Sahara. If you want only a soft top and an automatic then by the X. The Price is a thousand dollars difference, Which do you like better? Also if you buy the X the price could easily go up a thousand dollars depending if you find a deal on a hard top or not.|

|Jerry Bransford||I'd go for the X. Plus its 4-speed auto tranny is sweet for wheeling offroad, I just converted my 5-speed manual to an automatic earlier this year for my rock crawling.|

|Jerry Bransford||Strictly trim for the most part. The Sahara just has an upgraded interior and its fender flares are painted to match the rest of the Jeep. Personally, I wouldn't pay extra for a Sahara unless it had the optional extra-cost Dana 44 rear axle.|
