1SAS Ryan,

I don't know how you plan on using your jeep, but here is an answer. I hope it helps you.

The 2.5 is a very capable engine with just the right amount of torque for off road IF YOU KEEP THE VEHICLE STOCK. If you plan on going with larger tires and lifts, you will probably have to regear to 4.88 gears. As a daily driver, the four cylinder is fine but on the highway, it is terrible. Most jeepers with the four cylinder just have to get used to driving slower on the highway. Other than that, it is very similar to the six. Since you have enough experience with the six, I don't have to go into that.

Jeeps with 2.5 aren't in high demand... this is why you see them for sale everywhere. I would suggest driving one so you can see the power difference between the six and the four... then you can accurately decide whether this engine is for you.

Take care,

nick50471 First...Welcome to WF

Second...You should start a thread here WF New Member Check In - Jeep Wrangler Forum so other members can meet you.

Third...The Iowa forum has very little traffic. If you ask you questions in the YJ section you get many responses.

Enjoy the forum.

Blind Dog I never had a YJ or a 4 cylinder, but I hear the 4's are tough engines...reliable...but with big offroad tires your highway speed is very limited. I'd roll either, but probably try for a 6.

4 cyl vs. 6 cyl.?

I am a former yj owner. Mine was an 88 that had a 4.2 engine with an automatic tran. I am now looking for another yj and I am finding a lot of nice jeeps but most are 2.5 l. Any pros or cons? I think I would prefer a 6 cylinder. But just thought I would get some other opinions from people that know a thing or two about jeeps. Thanks!
