dredg009 Well after looking around online if you can find a tj rear with 4.10 that'll be about 500 in my area then Prolly another 500 or more to regear the front. I'd do that if i were you and I had a money tree. But I'd just try to live with it. Jeep on everyone!

dredg009 Sorry you got a i4. Well my only suggestion is v8 swap lol. I don't know all that much about 4 cylinders except from a test drive and saying nope like a quarter mile later.

dredg009 I have 31" duratrac with 3.07 gears. Its not that bad just have to down shift. I bet 3.73 is just fine or even optimal gearing for 31". Also 3.73 to 4.11 is so small a change it Prolly wouldn't even tell. Just wheel it man.

Jerry Bransford $1900 is outrageous to regear two axles. My first regearing cost me just over $1300 and my last one was just under $1100... and those prices including Spicer/Superior Axle brand gears, all parts, all labor, taxes, everything.

If you want to just swap in axles from another SE that has 4.10/4.11 gears already, you have to use axles from a 97-06. '95 and older axles are set up for a leaf spring suspension and the job to convert them over to '97 or newer coil spring suspension TJ would be labor intensive, not to mention the need for new brackets... the total cost of which would be more than just regearing your axles would cost.

For only 31" tires, I'm not so sure I'd pay too much to get the 4.10/4.11 ratio that'd be better for that size tire. If you could get a cheap pair of axles from another '97-06 SE that'd be ideal but to spend over $1k to regear your present axles from 3.73 to 4.10 is not something I'd do.

Gear Change

I have a 97 tj with a 2.5 auto, which has 3.73 factory gears... I upgraded to 31s an was going to switch to 4.11s or 4.56s gears, but the local shop wants around 1900.00 for front and back. I was wondering if I could find a 5 speed with 4.11s and just swap the whole housing and everything. I found a rough 95 with a 5 speed for 1700.00, not sure if that year would work.. Does anyone know what year I need to stay with for a direct swap with no major modification.. Thanks for the help..
