warbird24 My first Jeep I had when I lived in the Clovis area in the early 70's. I would head north of town towards the Escarpment and drive some of the roads and such out there. It is like the land just drops off there. It's really pretty and the views are wonderful.

Sometimes I'd drive down to Ruidoso and then head up into the mountains. Lots of fire trails and such.

Looking at Google Earth, that area has certainly changed a lot. Much more farming and irrigation going on down there where there used to be open land. As always, don't drive on posted private land.

I've thought about moving back after all these years. I still have some old friends down there to hook up with.

Trails near Clovis/Portales NM

Does anyone know of any nice trails that are around or near Clovis or Portales NM. For "boring" weekends im looking for a place to take the Jeep within 30-40 miles and on longer weekends I would head farther away. Im not looking to do anything "hardcore", more along the lines of something that goes through a ghost town or even a nice trail to get her dusty/muddy.
