4.2's with the BA10 tranny and 2.5's are 21 spline, 4.2's with the AX15 and 4.0's are 23 spline. the difference in your case and the JY case is the speedometer connection, yours is electric the other mech, just swap connectors.
there was a gear change in 94 and many internal parts can't be swapped but the externals are the same.
just went thru this when I swapped a 95 4cyl. case into my 4.2, it bolted right up and the speedo was a one bolt swap.

|jokerchief462||As far as I know no difference other than input spline count. It happens when you upgrade tranny from AX-5 to AX-15 you also have to change the T-Case input shaft for spline count.|

|jokerchief462||The difference is the input shaft spline counts. 21 vs 23 or something. You could use the input shaft from your old one if you haaven't killed that along with the other damage.|

YJ Transfer Case Question
I recently cracked my transfer case in half by hitting a ditch on a snowy logging road. I went to the scrap yard today where there is an '89 YJ 2.5l 4 cyl with a transfer case on it for sale. The manager said that it wouldn't fit on my 1991 YJ 2.5l, because of the year difference. There is also another YJ, 1991 v6 with a t-case on it, but he also said that it wouldnt work with a 2.5l 4 cylinder. I have a 231J T-case.
Here are my questions:
Does it matter what year it is for the T-case to fit?
Does the type of engine effect the interchangeability of the t-case?
