(although i have major control issues) and it's selectable? even kooler.is this new tech? i'd b afraid of malfuntions and a false sence of security. can they loose calibration? maybe now all those credit card jeep modders wont flip there rigs on flat sand...|

|kbart||It's pretty cool on the road, I've tried to throw it into a few slides through the corners on snow and ice and it just straightens itself right out most of the time. Kinda takes the fun out of winter driving.|

The JK comes stock with "brake lock differentials" that are actually very effective as well.
It all works as intended. Most of the time. The trick is to anticipate when the anti-nabob gizmos might hinder and turn them off... ...I learned the hard way and have a crushed rear bumper to show for it from an ice encounter.

The ESP is a safety system that controls the dynamic vehicle motion in emergency situations by controlled braking of individual wheels to make the vehicle motion approach the motion intended by the driver.
It uses signals to discern the driver's intention, such as steering wheel angle and torque, brake pressure and engine torque, and signals to derive the actual motion of the vehicle, which is angular velocity of the car around its vertical axis and lateral acceleration.
So ESP's main purpose is to save your ass when you perform an evasive maneuver that would normally result in loss of control of your vehicle and a subsequent collision while attempting to avoid the original collision.
IMO I would not pull the fuse on a street driven Jeep. It can keep the right side down alot better than you can. I can attest that it works as intended when intended. And you out there complaining about the sand??? I drive in the sand all the time and have no problem in 4H and hittin the button. On the trails, DEEP sugar sand, 4L 2nd gear even in my stock SRA's never got stuck

|Felsengleiskette||still lost...it dictates what tire gets drive line input? like a lim slip with a brain??? like drivin' 60 and just decide to whip my steering wheel to the right....it will stop me from doing so?!? cuz that would be a stupid thing to do on the road.|

|Badfish||o and does it do nasty things when your in the sand always grabbing the tires unevenly making the jeep turn on its own it sucks but if it ever saves my life once on the road its worth it right?|

It really does come in handy on twisty backroads but is annoying on muddy trails.

ESP is very helpful sometimes. But it hinders you in mud and very loose terrain when you might fall off a cliff. Like yesterday on the very narrow, icy, slippery, muddy trail I went down.
But I turned off my esp at the mud bog and 4-highed my way through. And 4-lowed my way up the mountain.
The Jeep took better care of me than my craptastic AT tires...

|johnybolt||In 4 high, when I press and hold esp button, chime rings and dash says esp off. Dont know if its really off, but I think it is. This on 07 X 4dr.|
