That's a pretty cool story. He was certainly one of a kind. RIP, General!
Let me go to sleep now
to march and fight no more
let me go to sleep now
I'm tired, my body's sore
so lay the green sod on me
put the wreath upon my stone
lay the green sod on me
the soldier has come home

RIP "The Bear" or "Stormin Norman"
Unfortunately Norman Schwarzkopf has passed away due to complications from pneumonia.
He played a large part in my enlisting in the military. I saw a televised speech he did in early 1990 and then when Op. Desert Storm started to kick off I was on my way to the recruiters...
Many years later (Late September 2001) I spoke to him briefly while visiting a friends home shortly after 9/11. My friend and I had just seen him on one of the big news channels and I said, " I always hoped I would run in to him at some point." and my friend said, "Why would you like to talk to him?" and of course I said yes...
Well my friend ambushed me by pushing a few buttons on his phone, saying hello to him, chatting for a few minutes and then saying, " There is a Jar Head here who would like to say hello." and he handed me the phone...
We chatted for a few minutes, I told him about the speech I had seen and how it had motivated me... He said, "So why the hell did you join the USMC? You have a death wish?"
RIP General... You will never be forgotten!
