Shoe Thanks Nick
The effect on the ride was another thing I was wondering about. Glad to hear that it's an improvement.
I'm not sure why all of the aftermarket rims seem to be made for 33's!

nick_marcil 31x10.5 on rims with 3.75 backspacing. Doesn't stick out too far, and looks pretty good. Gives it a much more solid ride and feels more planted to the ground. Stock flares though, not Sahara.

Who has 31's on 15x8 rims with 4" backspacing?

I'm going to need new tires soon and I was thinking of replacing the beat up Canyon rims that are currently on the jeep. It seems like all of the rims I like have between 3.75 and 4.25 inches of backspacing, compared to the 5.5 on the Canyons. For tires I was planning on BF Goodrich AT KOs in 31 x 10.5 and the jeep is a 2000 Sahara, so the flares are 1" wider than stock.
If you have a similar set up, how do you like the wider look; better or worse than with stock rims? Is there anything else I need to consider other than the wider stance?
The jeep is driven mostly by my daugher so it will problably never see anything worse than light trails or fire roads or a trip to the beach.
Thanks for any help.
