For the cost of buying a Rubicon and paying a shop to do the conversion, you'd be time and money ahead by just hunting down a TJ with a V8 already installed. The one listed on Backwoods website is ridiculous...$27K for a 5.2 powered TJ..too much for $$ what you are getting in performance.
Todd at JeepSpeed Shop periodically used to have a Hemi powered TJ for sale or he may even know of one somewhere. In August 2011 before I started my own conversion I almost bought one he had for sale..It was a 97 with a California legal 5.7 Hemi, 545 RFE trans, 3 in lift, 33s, and 4.56 gears. He had it priced at $20K at the time.

Cost is different depending on region. I can find a decent 4 cylinder tj for about 4k in my area, but it could be 6k for the same jeep in another region of the country. I would look for a jeep in a region that doesn't see heavy snow fall and didn't get driven on salted roads. A rotted out frame isn't something you want to deal with if you aren't in an are with parts readily available .
A 4 cylinder jeep is also going to need a new rear axle to take the additional torque of the v8.

I would contact backwoods offroad. They specialize in magnum swaps into jeeps. http://www.backwoodsoffroad.com/. They also have a finished jeep on their site for sale . It's not what I would have done , but does have a few nice parts on it. It's quite pricy though for what it is.
My advice is keep to your original plan and buy the Rubicon. Get an 03 and sell the 4.0 and transmission to recover some of your investment. You will get the 4:1 transfer case, Dana 44 axles front and rear with 4.10 gears and lockers. If you look around you should be able to find one in the low teens. I would search craigslist and ebay. Car-parts.com will be a good way to find an engine and transmission in the region you are buying your jeep, or near the shop that will be doing the work is located.

in one week i have to buy the jeep, the lift, tire and the engine, and swap all..
soi choose the jeep before come to the states, then i'll buy all and go to some mechanics that do the work..

well sounds nice..
so my idea is to come int he usa, take 4 cyl and mod it..
my goal is:
-3" inch serious lift
then send the jeep to italy..
i know this can appera very expensive, but i think that with the same amount fo money i buy a stock used tj rubicon..
in italy it cost about 21k $
do you think that with the same amount of money i can do all this?
a v8 swap how it cost?
i see novak for all complete kit cost 10 k $
but i hope that 5.2 swap cost less...

|hardcoretj||I get 16 mpg with the 5.2 and 4.10s. Power is no issue. 5.9 uses a lot more fuel for the marginal increase in power.|

|hardcoretj||Search for HardcoreTj's v-8 swap. I have 25k miles on my swap and love it. I started with a y2k se model. A Rubi would be awfully expensive up front and wouldn't be emissions legal. If you want to be legal in a Rubi think hemi or LS.|

|rda616||You can reuse the transfer case but not the transmission. It isn't that hard and you won't need to get ride of a bunch of the stuff that makes a Rubicon a Rubicon as the misguided post above has lead you to believe. You will be better off using the 5.9 and a built 44re out of a 5.2 96+ zj, or a 46re out of a 5.9 98 zj. You can also use a 44re, or 46re out of a ram, Dakota, or durango but the starter will be on the driver side and the transfer case will be clocked down further. This makes it harder to do a tummy tuck. You will also need the newer and harder to find pcm for your gages to work correctly. You will still be able to retain everything that makes a Rubicon a Rubicon. Basically you will need exhaust, pcm, engine mounts, radiator, hoses, fan, air intake assembly, emissions stuff off donor, Novak cable shifter for the transfer case, and the engine/transmission assembly.|

|JeepMedic1||buying a rubicon would be a waste of money if you plan on putting in a v8 because your going to have to replace so much anyway your best bet it to buy a 4 cyl for cheap and swap the motor into that and maybe go get a ford 8.8 rear end from the junkyard for cheap. im not 100% on the auto transmission from the rubicon but it probably wont hold up the the 5.2. if money isnt a problem for you buy the rubicon otherwise you pay a bunch of extra money and you wont have much left of it other than the rubicon sticker on the hood. you could also consider a stroker those put out plenty of power and wouldnt require as much stuff to be replaced. i hope that helps im not trying to be an ass just trying to help you save a little cash.|

jeep zj 5.2 swap in tj rubicon
i'm thinking about to do a swap in a tj rubicon.. i'm going to buy as soon as possible a jeep tj rubicon with automatic transmission, and i can find a complete 5.2 engine from jeep zj for a little price..
i'd like if the trasmission of the ruby will work.. i know i will have some problem with the electrical parts.
but reading in the network that this is a very simple swap..
