01TJ I too am interested in this swap. i have a 3 speed auto that just went out in my jeep and always wanted a stick. so is it worth it if i really want a stick and can do the swap myself? what complications would i encounter if i dont swap the computer? just a check engine light from the torque converter lockup or is there going to be drivability issues aswell?
Corey.

Giancarlo my trans blew a month ago.. i wanted to do the conversion because i only wheel on trails which never really have bolders or extreme articulation things....i wanted a manual just because thats how i learned to drive tj's with and for better control of the trans with inclines on highways and such.. the auto rebuild costed 1400 and thats with heavy duty torque convertor, hayden trans cooler, and heaver clutch disks and atf 5 fluid... the trans shop said it would cost around 2000 for labor on just the auto to manual swap .. i called davies jeeps and found a 36,000 rubi trans and transfer case and all necessary swap parts such as clutch cylinder pedals and everything for 1600..

its not worth doing that swap unless you can do the swap yourself.. so i decided to just rebuild my auto and im loving it but im still miss the manual

Na i just want a manual cause its fun and i just traded my srt-4 for my jeep at thanksgiving cause i needed somem more reliable now im missin driving a stick and i want better gas mileage. I didnt know it was as difficult as people say i figured i would just need the hydrolic sylindar, clutch, tranny and a pcm from a manual jeep. Oh and a clutch peddle and lines

Atthehop It's not just the trans and shifter, you need the complete hydraulic clutch system. Like they say above, sell it and get a manual unit. Mines a commuter vehicle and it's more fun to drive a manual.

panhead Why? Don't do it. Trade or sell the Jeep you have now for a stick. Be cheaper and easier.
