Quick rocker guards install question..

I'm in the middle of installing some Smittybilt XRC Rocker Guards and the directions call for me to shave 3/16" off of the top of each bushing. I also have a lift kit.. So above the bushings are the lift blocks. The bushings are domed at the top, I feel like shaving them flat would screw something up, would I just be able to cut down the blocks instead? It's only 2 per side, but the 3/16" will be filled in by the rocker guards themselves. Just seems like it's more accurate cutting down something that is already flat.
