Copy what fubar 1958 and crawlin_archer state... trailer light misbehavior is almost always ground problems where the circuit is seeking ground and will go even through lower wattage bulbs to get it, and can ground through other circuits. (lighting them up and leaving the target light un-lit) I also always send a ground pigtail to frame out of the vehicle socket as well so the ground is not dependent on going through the hitch
Always use solder and shrink tube to make connections. Never use crimp or squeeze connectors. Keeping the plugs clean and corrosion free also helps.

|crawlin_archer||I run a ground wire from the connector to a bolt thru the trailer right at the neck. Then make sure each light is grounded where it mounts to the trailer. What is the harbor freight link supposed to be it says not found? If you have a JK & using the plug n play 4 way connector that part should be right. It's real hard to screw that one up. Sounds like a bad ground issue & the light is searching for a ground & that makes the lights do weird things.|

I have had issues kind of like this as well. Even had this same trailer with the same issue on the rear light. I ended up using a hard wire brush to scrape off the paint on the trailer where it was grounded with the ground wire, and then I did the same for each light and grounded them directly to the frame. Some trailers will use the bolt on the back of the light as the ground, and it doesn't always make good contact. Try running a wire with some crimp on terminals from that bolt, directly to the frame. Self-tappers work great for connecting them to the frame. I bet this is the problem with your tail light.

We have brackish water here so I never fix one bulb or fixture on a boat trailer. I buy the lights as a set and replace all the trailer lights and all the wiring at the same time. It's only $20 in parts and it saves hours of troubleshooting.

|fubar 1958||I have found with most trailer lights the best way to wire them is to run a separate ground wire from each light to the ground wire on the trailer plug. That way you have no issues with the grounds at the trailer lights themselves, which 75% of the time causes the issues you are having!|

If it was reversed wouldn't the brake light still come on since both filaments light up. And that wouldn't make sense that the blinker works still but it just not at the right time?

There should be a separate ground in the harness (at least on the larger style plugs).
Sounds like the right trailer light wiring might be reversed?

|Renegade44||Drive it around the block. If your ball isn't clean (rust and corrosion free) or hitch a good ground is not being made. This will cause irregular voltages. Try it and let us know.|

Problem with trailer lights. Jeep or trailer?
I purchesed a 40 1/2 x 49 trailer and built it up but I'm having problems with the lighting. I did just purchase the harness for my jeep so I hope it's not that and it's the trailer. The left amber running light will not light up. The right rear is dimmer than the left and when I turn the right blinker on it alternates with my jeep blinker but the left blinker is at the same time with my jeep. When the hazards are on they alternate back and forth, the Left Roth the jeep and the right lights up when the jeep light is off giving it a back and forth effect. Now when I brake the left one lights up and the right one shuts off completely. Is the maybe a wiring problem or maybe HF put the wires into the connection wrong?
