catengr I had a similar experience with my 2012 Rubicon. Had the head replaced around 18,000 and experienced a similar drop in mileage. I took it back months later, they updated software, but still the best I get is around 19mpg. My friend had her cyl head replaced on her 2012 in high 20k miles. But she has not had a drop in mpg.

This seems very fishy to me. Has anyone had a similar experience?

Highlandman I had my head replaced within 5,000 miles. I have a two door 2012 Rubicon. I was four wheeling when the light came on and was running rough/misfiring. When the local dealer looked at it, he knew that the head was bad and said I did nothing to cause the problem. They replaced the head and I have had no problems since. The mechanic said this was the 5th or 6th he replaced. He had one that had 20K on it after the change and no problems. I recommend to go to a good dealer and have them look at it. Hope this helps.

I'm with you. I've been a mechanic for 5 years now, and while gas is formulated differently for winter, it wouldn't mess up the mileage that much. I'd go to your dealer where you bought it and talk to them and see if they can get you a better explanation on what really happened. They can use the national service history to look into it for you. If that doesn't work, contact jeep directly and file a complaint about all this. Threaten to go to the Better Business Bureau. They investigate stuff like this and fight companies who rip off customers, if you wanted to go heavy caliber. But start with your local dealer and go from there

SweetTeaDrinkerTJ98 I think your mechanic is being a little bit disingenuous. I'm in tech-school to become a mechanic and I've tinkered around with anything that moves since I was very little, and I've never heard anything about how gas burns differently because of how its mixed when its cold. If anything, once your motor gets hot and given that you're not at an extreme altitude, it should run better because cold air is denser therefore making the explosion in the combustion chamber hotter which is also how a CAI or snorkel gives you some HP.
