Good wheeling southern CA?

The wife and I are looking for more trails and interesting wheeling trips. Day trips, weekend trips, interesting tails with history, or just fun. It seams a lot are closed or really far. It's usually just us going so too far is kind of sketchy. Any good trails in the so cal area? Was thinking of planing a big bear trip or a san Diego trip. Anyone have info or would be interested in joining?
