Zed X2 your fine stock to start. In fact many recommend going stock the first couple of times. You'll quickly learn what you need/want from doing that. Everyone has different priorities. For me I wanted more armor before any kind of lift.

Go low and slow. Have fun.

bittercritter You can do plenty of offroading in a stock jeep, why don't you go out stock (not by yourself), and see what you can do

Steeljag A 4" lift will require allot of other things needed to be done to the Jeep to make it right. (use search function) to read up on that. To answer your question about "light" off roading, a set of 31's / a recovery kit / and head on out.

If after a few trips out , you determine you need more / better suspension you can go 2" or 2.5"........without all the mods required with a 4" lift.

Depending on your area in which you live, and what you plan to with the Jeep will determine the set up.

Anyway, there are dozens of guys / gals on this site with much more experience than I who will chime in, in the mean time....... have a great time with your ride, and be safe.

New to all this

I have a 95 YJ completely stock next two weeks I plan on getting a 4"suspension lift and either 31's or 33's. I guess my question is am I able to do light off road fun with just that stuff being done?
