An automatic won't shift and lug... If the computer has it in that gear than it is good to go, therefore the lowest rpm will provide best mpg. Simple physics, rpm's require gas.
More rpm's=more gas.

|6InARowMakesItGo||there are a lot of unanswered variables with that question. like are the routes the same distance? are their any stop signs/lights on either route? my hunch is the flat road is better. fyi my jeep likes to be just below 3k rpm for best fuel economy.|

|Dextreme||Seems like the best MPG is when most of the driving in within the powerband and that is why regearing helps MPG when running bigger tires.|

Little gas mileage question.
Am I better off going 30mph through hills around 1800 to 2000 rpm or a 45-50mph flat road around 1400 rpm? I have the 2006 wrangler x 4x4 automatic. It goes through the hills in 3rd gear, and the 45-50 in overdrive. This is for daily driving to and from work and would prefer to save the gas money for wheeling and summer cruising. And yes, i know, jeeps are not gas efficient.
