|03Ruth||I thought I had a rear main leaking also and come to find out it was just my valve cover gasket. It was running down the back of the motor and pooling up on the bell housing and the bottom of the oil pan. The valve cover gasket is a much easier fix so I would check it first.|

Awesome. Thanks guys. Like i said, there is never anything in the ground. But ill def keep an eye on it.
Do you think this could be an aftermarket replacement pan since youve said youve never seen one like this?

|Powder Monkey||If it's the rear main it'll usually bead up on the transmission bell housing. Yours appears to be clean. For good measure you might want to make sure your pan bolts are tight, but until it makes it the ground I wouldn't worry about it.|

|Shark_13||Mine was dry when i bought it, and after doing an oil change to high mileage semi synthetic i get the same drop. Not enough to leave marks on the ground though....weird.|

It is most likely the rear main seal. They always leak on jeeps. My YJ leaked and thankfully my TJ has yet to start leaking. But in due time it will probably start sometime soon.
As for repairing it, you can but it will probably start leaking a couple weeks later. As long as it is not dripping puddles of oil, you will be ok. A couple drips here and there is normal and your oil
level shouldn't change that much.
Oh and yes that is the oil pan. But I never seen the oil drain plug on the side of the pan. They are usually on the middle.

Oil Pan? possible leak
Hey all, Sorry still getting to know jeeps.
The squarish box with the nut marked in yellow in the picture is the oil pan right? I was doing my usual quick inspection as i was gassing up this morning and noticed a layer of oil on this part. I took this pic after i had wiped it with a paper towel (you can kind of see the wipe mark).
I never ever have any drip marks on the ground under the jeep anywhere (one of the reasons i bought it) and still dont after noticing the oil on this.
Think it might be something to worry about or is it just one of those 'jeep' things.
Thanks in advance.
