nwbronco With the unit hubs on the JKs, I would actually do the reverse. I'd put the air locker in the front, as that is where you'd be bound up trying hard turns with an auto locker. Auto in the rear works well. it'll engage on straight aways and disengage on turns. It can be a bother in the front at slow speeds and turning.

Daniel_M I think it is an excellent combo. That was going to be my route. I already had the Aussie in the front and was going to put the Yukon Zip out back. I figured, how much snow do I see in Phoenix to have to engage 4WD on the street. Nice thing about the Auto is that it is worry free and strong. It’s always there on 4WD and you know it. The Yukon, well you said it, it’s less expensive than the ARB and nearly identical.

You can also just run the front Aussie for a while and see if you even need the rear or vice versa. Even with 1 locker you will have much more capability.

Would an Auto-locker & Air-locker combo be any good?

Okay, I'm pulling the trigger on some lockers soon and I've done allot of research on the subject. Here's what I've boiled it down to on my plans on lockers, I just need a sanity check:

I have an '07 JKU sport with Dana 30 front, Dana 44 rear and 4:10 gears.
  • Air lockers in the rear (leaning toward Yukon Zips)
  • Auto-lockers in the front (leaning toward Aussie)
The reason I'm leaning toward the Yukons are that they are about $300 cheaper than ARBs and they come with a $2k collateral damage warranty.
I think the Aussies will do well in the front because (from what I have read) they will only engage when I lose traction in 4WD. They seem to be one of the best on the market and for only $300, you can't beat the price.

My thinking on the auto lockers for the front is that it will be an easier install (I hope) and will not engage when in 2WD so I won't have to worry about them on the road. I've read about problems with them in snow and ice but here in southern Arizona, I don't think that will be much of a problem.

Money is not necessarily an issue (well, it always is, but . . . ) however I'm not planning on doing any heavy rock crawling since this is still my DD and I'm just tired of taking crap from my friends for having go gun it to get over things on the trail.

I figure this setup will get me the best bang for my buck.
