AZ jeep ideas and suggestions

I split my time living in Yuma and Payson. Just picked up a 99 TL 4 cyl auto that is very stock. As a fisherman I'd like to get it set up to follow map blue lines here in AZ especially up on the Rim. I'm thinking about armor and recovery first, then lift, suspension, and wheels. I'm very interested in what folks here in AZ have done to make their jeeps better for going off road in AZ. Any ideas and suggestions are welcomed.
