Vin I didn't paint to match, but I did paint them black. I wasn't worried about the overall finish because I figured they'd get scratched and dinged up from use. I took the bolt out and put it back on the other side to protect the threaded areas, hit with a self etching primer. then some black enamel. Let it dry, then flipped it over and hit the other side with primer and enamel.

Mykul I picked this up from my local Princess Auto 3/4 in. Class IV Tow Shackle | Princess Auto
I painted it (without priming) with a can of rustolium. That was a couple weeks ago, and it still looks good.
My plan if it gets chipped up too much I'll repaint and try the clear plastic-dip over it.

for those who have done this. What type of clevis did you buy. what was it made of. what process. clean prime paint?
