RednekYJ I've tried the threaded rod. First with a 12" piece inside the pumpkin trying to "press" the seal in. Then with a 3' piece trying to "pull" the seal in. I just cant get the thing to seat straight. I have a feeling it will be easier with one guy holding the seal and another hitting a dowel to seat it.

87YJWrangler what you mean you got shorter and shorter as in you had to crouch to do it?

dirt poor wheeler When I rebuilt my axels, The hardest part was setting in the new seals. With a little ingenuity though, I found that a long threaded bar lots of washers a few nuts and a few plates, I was able to get them in nice and easy. Wish I had a picture to show the tool I made, but throughout the process, I got shorter and shorter.

RednekYJ Super 30 it if you got the cash. I'm rebuilding a D30 right now actually. I'm not doing the super kit though. I've got the axle totally apart and am ready to put it back together. I just need to get a friend over here to help me seat the new axle shaft seals and it'll be new. I replaced the U-joint's on the shafts and pressed in new ball joints. Check the bearing assembly for play and replace it if needed. What do ya really want to know???

Here's my thread with some pics of the carnage.
