As said above, it will quickly teach you how it likes to be driven. Basically stay off the gas & coast through turns with even throttle application... don't slow down or speed up through turns. That is the secret to keeping it well behaved. stay off hard application of gas unless you're going straight or you're offroad.
Once you're used to it and it is becoming well behaved, it will make a very occasonal lurch or mild "bang" on the street but no worries, it's not going to break or damage itself... consider it bulletproof. I would just grin whenever that happened & feel reminded of just how much I loved my Detroit Locker.

|1rbotma||Ok. I think I'll just do the Detroit in the rear for now. Any tips for driving with it? I've never drove a jeep with any sort of locker|

Most of the benefit of lockers will be gained by the rear-mounted Detroit Locker. I'd do just the rear Detroit Locker for now which is a great and very well behaved locker... I miss mine a lot, I had one in my previous '97 TJ that was stolen three years ago.
The Detroit can be driven on snow-covered roads if you take it easy and don't accelerate through turns. I wouldn't let anyone not familiar with it drive it on icy or snow-covered roads though.
And once you have driven the Detroit a week or two, you won't even notice its presence. It quickly teaches you how it likes to be driven... which is primarily to say don't accelerate when you're turning, accelerating through a turn is what locks it up hard enough to make it noticeable. I barely noticed mine & passengers had no clue I even had a locker... the Detroit Locker is that well behaved when driven properly.

Do you think I will notice a big difference with just getting a d44 with a detroit locker in the rear of my jeep and 488s in the front? I'm not sure if I should spend the extra money to put a locker and new shafts in the front right now. I'm in college so money isn't bountiful. What would you do Jerry in my position?
I have not drove in the snow yet. and I'm not sure if I will.

I'd get those parts from anywhere BUT Quadratec who is about the highest possible priced source for such parts. And yes that first item, differential case w/gearset, is the carrier.
I'd get those parts from either Superior Axle & Gear or Randy's Ring & Pinon
If you have to drive in 4x4 during your Michigan winters, then a selectable locker up front is a good idea if you want front & rear lockers. You can get away with the OE shafts with 33" and smaller but for 35" and larger, definitely upgrade the front shafts.

What do I need to match my new REAR END?!
I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler d35 in the rear and d30 in the front, 35s, 4.0L, manual trans. I'm upgrading to a new G2 axle with 4.88s and a detroit locker.
Differential Case w/ Gear Set ( part #: 52410.10) Is this the carrier??
Ring & Pinion Install Kit (part #: 52465.0507)
Ring & Pinion Set (part #: 52463.50XX.A )
these are all from quadratec.. Should I get a selectable locker and new shafts for the front?
Thats ALL i need for the front regear correct?
