|Water Dog||Do you have a D-44 dif, or are you changing your whole rear end when you go to 35's? Might make a difference in your decission. With 4:88's on 33's you're going to be running about 2800rpm at 65mph which may be okay, but if your new engine hasn't been broken in a little it may not be a great idea right out of the git go. I think if it were me, I'd wait and make a tire decission first.... JMHO|

I would go with the 4.88 if you are eventually going with 35s. Will be a little low on the 33s, but as long as you aren't doing any long road trips you will be fine. You will definitely feel the extra power, but keep in mind that regardless of gearing you are still going to be downshifting as your terrain changes...hopefully just not as often.
The occasional trip up 65 to Springfield shouldn't be an issue even with the lower gearing...I used to live in the area.

Good re-gearing for my '01 60th ann. 4.0 5 speed??
Alright guys, I was just curious on what gearing I should go with, a good brand name, with lockers preferred but I ehave an '01 60th Anniv. TJ with stock 3.73's in it 4 in. lift on 33's but I live in Branson, Mo. which has alot of hills & alot of constant braking & gear changing... which makes me want to lower my gears so then I can drive more staying in one gear... I have been reading up on your site & I'm rebuilding my Jeep motor right now & I was thinking since I was getting this done, I should change out the gears since it's already getting worked on... I read up on this thread: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f5/4-56...-176271-2.html that 4.56 gears is about right for 33's & 4.88s on 35's but I would really like to get something that will work ok for 33's but I would really like to jump up to 35's eventually if I can make it clear 35's... I don't drive my Jeep on the highway much EVER but I just like to drive it sometimes & I just want something to make it kinda easier to drive & not really have to downshift as frequently... Any reccomendations for a good set-up??? Thanks alot AGAIN guys!!
