ipod connection

Hi all,
I purchased a '07 wrangler yesterday and currently have my ipod running through the aux cable. This is ok until I wish to skip a track (some music isn't suitable for the ears of my children), when I have to double click the ipod's home button, and then tap away at the screen until a suitable song comes on.
I don't have a USB port on my head unit, and didn't get an audio manual with the vehicle, so don't even know which head unit I have...
I want to be able to pair my iPhone with the car to make calls etc and I understand that a lock pick is the way to go for that, but could do with the ipod integration too...
Any help would be greatly appreciated
