It's interesting that you posted that link to the AX5 to AX15 swap.
I just found a '95 4.0/AX15 locally. The motor raps at startup, but the tranny shifts fine.
Between the two, I could have a good motor (my current 2.5 is tight) and a good tranny (my current AX5 is not so tight). I could also rebuild the 4.0 at my leisure and have it ready if needed.
I've always been a fan of parts vehicles.
Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I guess I'm going to have to get the bellhousing shipped.
Hopefully I can start this swap next month.

ya, 4.0's never a 4 banger. here's a link about swapping the ax15 that came behind the earlier 4.0's and the dakota bell housing. i would imagine the bellhousing would work for the nv3550, but not sure.

Nevermind, I did one more web search after I posted this and found my answer. Figures that I'd post then find out.
NV3550 came behind 2000-2005 4.0s.

NV3550 Swap Question
I have a '95 YJ with the 2.5/AX5 combo.
I'm in the process of collecting all the info I need to make this swap. I've been searching the web and have found lots of good info. I do have one question though.
All the info I've found says the NV3550 was used starting in 2000. Okay, that's easy. I found one in a junkyard not too far from me. The other important thing is a bellhousing from a Dakota.
Bear in mind that I haven't checked the bolt patterns, but if the NV3550 came off a Jeep 2.5, wouldn't the bellhousing that's on it work?
The only thing I can think of is I've missed a crucial bit of info that says the 3550 came on 6 cylinder TJs only. I found a couple threads (on different forums) that even mentioned 2000 and up 2.5l TJs as having this tranny. This is where my confusion stems from.
Thanks for reading.
