I'm hoping to get offroad somewhere this Sunday, if not in CT on the trails mentioned here I'm thinking just over the border in Massachusetts if anyone's around and/or has any recommendations.

The power lines in Waterford are accessible but not legal. Over a year late to this thread but I just joined the forum... I live very close to those power lines in Waterford and you can access them from a couple of places, not legally, but you can get there... I used to ride them on my dirt bike.. There is a trail right off of Cross RD just passed BJ's heading towards 85 that leads right into them. Also, if you go passed the Super Wal-Mart and Lowes on the service road all the way to the end there is a trail entrance there also.

I haven't been on them in my JKR yet so I don't remember if the trail entrance by Wal Mart is vehicle friendly or not.... The one by BJ's is and I have seen vehicles back there before.. Once again, totally not legal....

07-10-2012 09:47 AM
crazymike I wheel in the higganum power lines nothing to really worry about up there. I have also run into the DEP there too, just bring a garbage bag and pick up garbage when you stop they will love you for it.

Nepaug forest

There are a couple ways to get in there the first one is on rt 44 on the canton new hartford town line on Satan's kingdom rd, i have been told that road is prone to flooding. The way i went in is on rt 202 also on the canton new hartford town line,it is a little trickier, if you are heading west on rt 202 after you cross into new hartford you will see the high tension power lines cross the rd. right before the lines on the north side of the rd there is a dirt rd marked by a tiny sign that says Nepaug state forest, if you hit Steele rd in new hartford you went too far, turn around go back about a 1/10 of a mile. there is a third way in from ramp rd in canton, go all the way down ramp rd, go past the town dump and right in to the forest. If anyone can explain it better please do as i have only been there once and it took me forever to find these entrances.

Never had a problem at nepaug, as long as we stayed out of the water. Never needed a winch there as far as I could remember. You just need to pick your lines and avoid some of the big stuff (there is usually a trail around it).
