Dubs99sahara Because my TJ is a daily driver and for various other reasons, I am going to do the AW4 swap into my TJ. I had a 1994 Cherokee Sport and loved the I-6 and the Auto tranny. Stu's article was very helpful and complete in what has to be done. By year's end I might have a nice 5 speed to sell.
Jerry, Thanks for all the help you give on this forum!

Golden Hauler Would it be worthwhile to change it out to an AW-4?

If your '97 Automatic is a Wrangler, then yes your 32RH 3-speed automatic and the AW4 4-speed automatic that only comes in Cherokees and Grand Cherokees are totally different types of transmissions.

If you are thinking your automatic is a 4-speed due to a third slight additional drop in RPMs you can feel/hear once you reach cruising speeds, that is caused by the torque converter locking up which drops the engine RPMs by about 150.

One and the same, a Cherokee is an XJ.

Looking for some help on this one. Have you or know someone who put a 4spd (3spd with overdrive) auto trans in a TJ 97-02?
