Ryman12 Im going to have to be the black sheep and say go for the Shahra. Less miles, lower price, and for what your describing you probably don't need a Rubicon. Just my 2c

Upgraded 3550? The Sahara has the NV3550 in it the Rubi has a NSG370.

You can easily do the locker bypass mod to use the lockers in 4-high. It's a pretty common mod.

I agree with Big Cole on this one. Keep looking unless they are willing to negotiate a lot.

03 Sahara , asking $10600, has 105k Miles. Auto. Has had the U bolts and rear seal done.

05 Rubicon , asking 13,800 and already said they're flexile, has 148k. Standard. Don't know much more than that yet.

Any input would be appreciated
That Rubicon is way overpriced for a rig with 148k miles. I saw an 05 Rubicon with under 60k miles on craigslist for $14.9k yesterday. Keep looking and don't settle on a high mileage rig unless the price is commensurate with the miles.

MarkGLHS there's really not enough info you provided to make a smart recommendation but based on above bang for the buck you might be better off w/ the sahara.

rubicons are the top dog TJ but remember the air-lock feature on the axles can only be used in 4wd low range, so, they will not help you in deep snow or sand where you typically need 4wd high range.

my advise is to not buy either of these until you have looked at many more TJ's just to be sure you are getting a fair deal.

Rubicon06Va Sorry not done! Three years younger and better resell with Rubicon. Better performance, easy to upgrade at Rubi starting point, lifts, larger tires etc

Rubicondon53 I'll chime in as well. If for no other reason, a rubicon will always have a higher resale value.

Timberline Just know that you can add lockers to the Sahara down the road if you wanted. They aren't cheap but it is an option. The Rubi already comes with them.

yoopone Depends upon how you are going to use them. I have a 97 Sport and an 05 Rubicon. The Dana 44 axles and the fact that you can lock them along with the upgraded transfer case make the Rubicon a better buy for off road. I spent a lot of time and money on the 97 making it act like a Rubicon and I still have more to spend. I use both Jeeps off road in the woods and mud alot. For just Jeeping around town and on the beach as you describe the Sahara would be just fine and it is lower priced and lower miles. But if you ever think in the future you would want the locking axles consider the Rubicon. This is just my personal opinion, I am sure others will have different opinions.

First venture into a Wrangler... Your suggestions would be welcome
Both bodies/ frames are in great shape,the usual bruises for vehicles these ages.
We won't be doing any hard core wheeling, light trails and the beach at most. And both run and sound as they should. No leaks before or after driving. Exhaust seems the right color. Both ride " we'll"....
