whiteyjfm When you changed the oil the last time, was the light on?? I took our Jeep to the dealer for an oil change (yes I know....) before the light came on and low and behold, 350 miles later the light came on.

Took it back to them and ask what is going on and they said that if you change the oil before the light came on and reset it, the computer sometimes does not accept the reset.

Just a thought. They could have sold me some BS, but I did check the oil after they changed it and it was done.

PS Our jeep is a 2012 model and the light came on the first time at 3750 miles and I took it for the second change at 10 000 miles.

Jeeperz Creeperz Check your oil. Is it at the same level as when you changed it? Does it look like new oil out of the bottle?

Unless there is something wrong with your Wrangler, you have been doing a great deal of off roading, let your Wrangler idle like a cop car for long periods of time, drag race it or use it as a taxi, there is no reason it should be changed at 2,000 miles.

DFW6ER is right. Send the oil to be tested if you are concerned. Otherwise it appears the oil monitoring program was not reset.

DFW6ER It factors a variety of variables into an algorithm which determines when your oil should be changed....it doesn't directly measure oil contaminants, nor does it go strictly by mileage. For instance, lots of steady RPM highway speeds for lengthy periods might not trip the light until close to 8,000 miles whereas frequent short trips and high RPM driving might trip it at 2,000 miles.
If you're really concerned, I'd suggest you contact Blackstone Labs for a free container and send an aliquot to them for a used oil analysis. IIRC it's $22 and it'll tell you w/ 100% certainty how your oil is holding up.

I'm using the synthetic like recommended. I guess my real question is does the computer use the odometer only or an oil life monitor.

I'm 99% sure I did. And mostly highway. The last 2k may have been harsher than normal but I don't think they were. I was also under the impression the new engine didn't just run off the odometer but rather monitored oil life. Is this not the case?
