|Dmactampa||Wish I would have read this sooner. Bet it could have been fixed in minutes. My girlfriend had the same issue, at least it sounds the same, on her 2012 altitude. If you remove the glove box there are 2 metal pipes that I believe are A/C related. They were as close to touching as you can get. I gently bent them away from one another and problem solved. It drove her crazy for weeks and then I sat shotgun and fixed it in 5 miles. I guess if it happens again everyone will know. I have a '12 and it never happened to me.|

|Bourget117||Just came across this thread today by accident. I brought my auto 2012 sahara jku in for service last November to fix a clunking I thought was inside the cabin. Turns out it was outside and the passenger windshield bracket had become misaligned and was causing the noise. Dealer fixed it and all set. Well that same day I started hearing a buzzing sound when accelerating behind the dash just to the right of the radio before the glove box. Sounds exactly what the OP was describing. The service dept must have moved something looking for the clunking noise inside the vehicle because that's where it originally sounded like it was coming from. When I get back to the shop( I was waiting for the recall hose to come in so I can get it all done at once) I can tell them to look at the metal heater hoses and see if the are rubbing.|

|bsr7696||Funny enough, my 2012 never made the noise you describe but 2013 makes a 'slap' noise at 30-40, almost think you just ran over a plastic bottle and crushed it. The noise is sporadic and unpredictable...when you least expect it, you hear it then you say WTF was that? Lol|

Just wanted to give everyone an update. After relentless effort to resolve the issue, I traded the 2012 Rubicon for a 2013 Rubicon. My new Jeep came a few weeks ago. I have a new Billet Rubicon 4dr and love it. With exception of the water leak on the driver door, (going back to dealer next week) the Jeep feels different. No noises in the transmission, smooth shifting, the new seats are a huge difference. The new top has a euro feel to it.
In the end, I was getting zero help and poor customer service from the regional Chrysler folks. The 800 number folks were very nice but had no effective power to drive any resolution. I wrote a personal letter to CEO Sergio Marcione as a customer, loyal Jeep fan and business person with detailed information of each issue that I encountered along the way. I had a call within 4 days from one his direct reports then a call later in the day from another person who walked me through a process to help get out of my 2012 and into my 2013 for short money. The dealer and Chrysler worked together to get into the 2013. A big thank you !
In summary, it took a while to get to a resolution but I was very happy with Chrysler and the help I received. Moral of the story, don't give up until you reach the right people to work it out.

post the audio here.
you can even check your right front tire for a stone or something stuck in the tread being the cause of it all. Hearing the audio will assist immensely.

There are quite a few similar oddities in that speed/rpm range. One you can check inside the front passenger side wheel well (as below)
That plastic lining would catch the wind at 30-40 mph and resonate
The other worth investigating are the heater pipes running from the engine bay through the fire wall, vibrating also at certain speed/rpms making similar noted sounds. Lots of info and advice how/where to look, google "metal heater pipes vibrating jk 2012" and you'll see discussions on many forums. Also 2012 JK low rpm noises whistles vibrations are fairly common issues and discussed indepth.

Steve, thanks for your reply. Is your Jeep an auto or standard? I have an automatic so I wasn't sure if you were referring to the 'clutching mechanism' inside the auto or maybe something associated with the transmission that they had to remove/reinstall that could be causing the noise issue.
I am working with Chrysler now after sending the CEO Sergio Marchione a personal letter with my dissatisfaction of the situation. I am a long time Jeep owner. I had a Jeep CJ7 before I had my drivers license! I'm working on a trade discussion to get into a 2013 and I'm asking Chrysler for help.

I had the same problems with my jeep 2012 Rubicon Unlimited. I had it back to Chrysler so many times I lost count.
I finally did what you did and recorded it with my phone. The noise stops when you push in the clutch so they started there. So far, I have had the clutch release bearing changed, the tensioner and reciever pulleys changed and finally they replaced the whole clutch assembly. This seems to have stopped the noise but I'm not overly confident it'll stay that way as they didn't really seem to know what it was.

2012 'Buzzing Noise' at 1400 RPM's - dealer can't figure it out
I was hoping some experienced folks out there could help me diagnose a problem and get some advice on working through my options with Chrysler.
I have a 2012 JKU Rubicon that I bought over the summer. From about 200 miles on, I started noticing a buzzing noise like a cross between a mosquito (pitch level) and a low level metal rub noise on a bench grinder making a new key. Here's the catch, its only makes the noise in 3rd or 4th gear at exactly 1400 RPM's typically between the speed range of 33-37mph under load of the gas pedal predominately when going up an increase in road grade. The RPM has to be exactly 1400. If you hold it at that RPM, the noise doesn't stop. The noise appears to be resonating from the passenger side rear of the motor going forward out of the front right side of the vehicle away from the driver position. I've had it in the dealer several times. After they couldn't figure it out, they scheduled the experienced Chrysler tech to look at it with me and kept it in the shop for 10 days. I was able to re-produce the noise with the tech and he was able to do it on his own. He was stumped after 10 days and couldn't figure out the problem. The dealer is no longer going to work on it because they claim they have exhausted all of their resources and there is nothing they can do at this point.
The response from Chrysler is now that it's a 'harmonic' noise caused by a combination of wheel package/gear ratio/motor/transmission for people with Max Tow package option on the Rubicon. The vehicle seems to run just fine and they will just have to wait until something just 'breaks'. Without knowing the actual problem, Chrysler is also claiming that its not a safety issue.
I love my Jeep and waited a long time to buy it. I've also been very patient with Chrysler and the dealer but at this point I'm incredible frustrated. I've been playing and building Jeeps for a long time so I'm just at the end of my rope.
If this is truly a problem with wheel, gear, max tow package which creates a resonated harmonic noise then wouldn't other people have it happening to their Jeeps too?
Anyone else hearing a similar noise or have a similar issue?
Does anyone know the options Chrysler has at their disposal to fix the situation before I shout the dreaded word, "Lemon" ?
PS: If there is any Audio experts out there... I recorded the noise with my iPhone from inside the cabin one day. Send me an email, I will send you an Audio version of the noise.
