Srv748wg Thanks for the info. As for the speed, i was more curious about speed vs RPM's. for those with 33's and 4.56 gears, what speed/rPM do you consider your peak in terms of engine performance? I had an old nova years ago and changed Gears with similar ratios. The highway speeds dropped significantly due to the engine reaching high RPMs faster. I went from a maximum of about 130 mph (highest i went) to about 85 due to the gear change, but my off the line performance changed dramatically. Just curious if i could expect the same results.

I have a lengthy trip coming up and was curious what my expected speed would be so i can plan for time. I'll always keep safety in mind and will adjust accordingly for that.

I got this jeep like this so i dont have basis for comparison in terms of stock or any other combinations. Thanks again all.

Jerry Bransford 4.56 & 33" tires will give you essentially the same RPMs at highway speeds as the factory originally built it with. In other words, you can go any safe highway speed with 4.56 & 33" tires as you could when the TJ was brand new & fresh out of the factory.

eparrae I cant tell you your exact speed/ rpm because I haven't done the speedo gear yet, but a few months ago I went from 3.73's on 33's to 4.56's and its the best thing I've done to the jeep. Its a new world of driving once you hop on the HWY. You will smile a little bit when you throw it into 5th for the first time...

Max highway speed with 4.56 gears?

I have 33 inch tires. If i upgrade to 4.56 gears, which is the plan, what would be my expected max highway speed and RPM's? I currently have 3.07 gears and i hit 70ish at 1800-1900 RPM's (i haven't changed the speedo yet so not sure of actual speed, but speedo read 80 and i was keeping up with traffic). it takes a while to get up to speed of course.

97 sport with 4.0, 5 speed.
