Garyk I found getting and using a test light helps a lot when trying to figure out lighting. Also if you are going to splice into the harness, solder the wires, those clamptype connectors are not worth a damn.....Have you looked around on the internet for a plug and play harness?
Saves a lot of trouble and takes only minutes..

jokerchief462 I don't have the wiring diagram here at work but you will need to wire it at the drivers rear corner. You can access the wire harness by removing the splash guard at the left rear corner of the tub. That gives you access to the taillight harness. Fairly simple if you get rollover splices ask at the parts store they will help you out. Then just use the trailer wire kit and you shouold be good. Someone will chime in with wire colors.

Trailer harness wiring

Guys, I'm not electrically inclined and want to install an aftermarket wiring harness on my 89 YJ. Has anyone done this and can give me an idea of which wires to start working with?
