sanman357 I have the AMP steps on my Ram. Just close the doors and pull the fuse at the battery.

I'd recommend wiring the switch, but they have a safety built in if you physically interfere w/them (hold your leg against them while opening the door) they will only drop a little. I'm not sure how good this is for the mechanicals.

You can wire an inline switch to the either the trigger wires or the Power. I recommend the trigger wires, but to each his own. There are three trigger wires vs. one power so power would surely be easier. The switch will basically just break the circuit so it can't send power to steps to activate them. Just make sure switch is rated for the Amp rating of power wire or you will need to use a relay.

Mopar2Ya One of the nice things about the Power Steps is that they are a full 6" wide, not 2-4" wide like other steps.

BacaraJKU The RSE Sliders are nice and I had seriously looked at them at one point. However, they seem to be a very gen 1 product and I expect revisions over time that improve the product for the price they are asking. Just my opinion, but overall I'm sure they work great.

BTW, in case anyone wants to know, I went with power steps. They are sitting in my garage waiting to be installed this weekend.

caryt One thing I would highly recommend doing is adding additional holes and nutserts between the existing ones for additional support. This will help when you take hard hits.

Yes, please report on your long term satisfaction with the RSE product. I am interested because both my wife and I am pretty much in love with our rig and feel we need some brand of power step to compensate for the lift and 35's (lol, actually our age and laziness). As we get more aggressive off road, we may someday damage our AMP power steps. We would then consider the RSE product despite the cost. It's very pricey but......relative to the total cost of my Jeep and all the upgrades so far, not a show stopper.

Stompor I had the Bestop Powerboard (designed by AMP) for a couple of months.
They were really great for about a week, then they would bind and/or not work.

Contacted 4Wheel Parts who sold and installed them. They adjusted them on 4 different occasions and then gave up. Told me that is just the way they are.

So contacted Bestop who told me it wasn't a very good design for a jeep and I should return them.

So I did.

JK Coaster I've had my AMP Powersteps for about a year now and am very happy with the decision. With my 2.5 inch Teraflex lift and 35's the measured ground clearance is 16.5 inches to the lowest part of the Powerstep unit. Haven't made any contact yet. Here are a couple of pics, one with step up, 2ed with step down (11.5 inches of ground clearance with step down).

BacaraJKU Awesome, I figured they wouldn't create clearance problems, just can't be used in place of sliders.

Comstock On the start of the Fordyce trail near Like Tahoe last weekend. The steps have pretty good clearance. I chose my lines well and didn't make contact once with rocks. Another pic of clearance playing near my home in Nevada.

I've looked at those, but you are talking almost $800 more. The Amp steps sit up pretty darn high when folded up and I don't plan to do any rock crawling. I went out this weekend as a first experience and I was impressed with what I could get through and not even come close to hitting rockers.

Your pics make them look better than others I have seen. I was thinking I needed mud flaps for two reasons. 1- to keep sand from kicking up since I plan to do most offroading in dunes/beach and 2- cause I thought it looked awkward where step meets front fender.

Comstock I have the amp steps on my 2013 jku with a 4 inch lift and 35 inch tires. I bought my jku with a dealer installed lift and the amp steps. I wouldn't have bought them aftermarket but I do love them. They work exceptionally well. I had a few issues last winter when they would get heavily iced up and not close completely. I think they have loosened up with use and haven't experienced any issues since. I am used to the servo motor sound when I open my doors. On several occasions I have got out of the jeep and looked up to notice people staring in amazement at their function and questioning me on them.

MillerWelds87 I have them on my F150 and love them. I like how they tuck away and pop out when i open my door. Everyone that opens their doors go "WOW" thats cool. No problems with sand or grit from stopping them from swinging up and down. I am going to pass on these on my JK and get some ace sliders though. Either way you go it will be great!

BacaraJKU I'm not worried about protection because I hope to never be in the situation of using them as sliders. If I did damage either option, I'm the kind of person who would replace the damaged part.

I'm just concerned with how usable a single saddle type step is vs a bench style step. I've been looking at pics of nerf vs powersteps and both look like enough drop to be usable in height.

Sgt93 I had the AMP steps on my 11 F250 with 4.5" lift. Never had an issue with them opening or closing in any condition (Midwest). Loved them. My then 4yo could crawl in and out on his own. They were worth the money and have clean lines (which was nice on a truck).

On the other hand, with the Jeep you can have more of a dual purpose with tubes (protection) etc. It all comes down to what you want to spend, and what you want for looks/protection. Best of luck.

Power Steps vs Nerf Steps

I thought I was decided on Amp Powersteps, but now I'm looking at the N-Fab Nerf Steps.


Right now I have flat steps the look more like the factory rubi sliders, but stick out e ought to use as a very high step. My girl and young kids struggle to get in. I need to do something and the powersteps look to be perfect in terms of height.

Amp Steps:

- Good step height and fold away when not needed, but I'm concerned with sand, etc getting into joints and binding up down the road. To keep sand from spraying up, I will be forced to put mud flaps on. I know many don't like these, but I don't mind so this isn't a factor.

N-Fab:

- no moving parts and I think they look good in the satin black. My concern here is if its too high to be useful.

The most I'm lifting would be 2" and 33's. Looking for input
