Windsheild channel differences

We are just getting our 99 all lined out and are getting ready to install the new Softopper for the summer. Got the new soft half door uppers installed last night. Nothing like taking a grinder to your doors to cut out nuts someone welded into the three pin holes in the half doors. But got them out and installed the new door inserts.
My question is this. Are windshield channels interchangeable? Our Softtopper comes with one, not sure what type, but we would like to get a Smitty built mesh top for it as well. It says you have to have a Smitty built windshield channel to use it. Is that correct or can I use the one that came with the Softtopper? Our hopes are we can carry the mesh top with us and switch it out on the road. If we have to have different windshield channels then that will not works so well.
