New Tires and Wheels for my JKU sport. Help Please!
I will start by thanking everyone on this forum for the amount of information I have obtained lurking the past few months from the deciding on what Wrangler we wanted to the accessories after purchase. A couple weeks ago my wife and I purchased our first Jeep Wrangler and we are hooked . We went with the JKU sport in billet.
It is time to get rid of the 29 inch tires and upgrade the wheels and tires. I have a chance at what I consider a good deal on a set of 5 17x9 inch rims with 5” back spacing. I am debating on matching them up with either the BFG AT’s in a 275 70 17 or the Good Year DuraTrac 285 70 17 (or other brands in this size). I have no plans of adding any kind of lift. The majority if not all of our off road driving will be on the beach. The rest will be highway driving on trips and around town. I am leaning towards the BFG’s since I think they are the biggest tire I can fit without worry of any rubbing. I have read many posts on the 285 70 17’s and it seems mixed on their fit on a stock JKU. My goal is an AT tire that I will be big as possible while keeping everything on the Jeep stock other than the wheels. Any thoughts or suggestions from those running similar set ups would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. Trey.
