Not really if you do the kits that I showed. That is the way I am going to go.
DDM Tuning: HID and LED Lighting get the H4 bulbs 35 or 55w your choice, and then get the hi/lo bulbs. Thats all you need.
They come with the ballasts, etc.
Here are some diamond clear housings for the YJ's ready to accept the H4 hid bulbs (just no projectors) http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/200mm-halogenLamp
Then on E-bay just get the euro glass projector housings for the YJ ($25), and plug it all in!

Thanks man.... going this way. Looks like HID is a bit much work.

I don't even run the silverstars, though when mine eventually go out I will. I also use 2 driving lights for bad conditions and have em sequenced with my highbeams. I don't need to land an airplane, but I can see deer and furry woodland critters a LONG way out, which I do need.

This company is extremely recommended. We have used their HID's in Supra's for a long time. Motorcycles and other cars as well. Plus their prices are some of the best, as well as products and customer support:
These are the lights for the YJ, You have the option of 35w, 55w, and color. You do need to add the $20 option for the "hi/low" switching harnesses due to the YJ's single bulb design. If you go with new clear or projector housings they will use the H4 style bulb. The same H4 style is selectable here.
Still HID's and projectors will be brighter:

Here are the ones I was talking about.
6000k still gives plenty of brightness, almost blinding, and a little bit of that blue tint.
4-4500K will be extremely bright white.

I used plain ol' clear pilot light housings. OMG they are frikin bright as hell. If RBLRDR is out here he'll testify. I pulled up next to him on a trail at 2am to light the way. Trust me, all I need is those two headlights aimed like they're supposed to be. On the road, they're fine for other drivers because they point down in front. Then switch to brights and you'd think there were lights on the roof.
I used just the housings w/2 brand new stock bulbs in them. Being clear, they reflect the light out really good. Anything clear w/out texture is your best bet I'd say.
They looked a lot like these... Rampage H4 Headlamp Conversion Kit Jeep YJ XJ MJ Dot Approved 5089927 | eBay

Your best bet for brightness would be to get the Projector beam light assemblies for the YJ, then buy a set of HID bulbs and ballasts (55watt if you can find them) and go between 4500-6000k. That will be plenty bright.
I was looking and found 35watt HID bulbs, which does help cut down on heat, and they are usable for high and low beams for the YJ. I haven't yet located a 55watt version of these.

|roadyrob||I run sylvania silverstars, they are a little brighter than stock. one thing that helps is replace the old stock wiring with relays and larger wires, really makes a difference.|

|Lucky2balive||Man I would say just get fog or driving lights, I normally deck out my Jeeps in them and it helps a TON!|
