I've never tried it, but....

If you're on sand dunes and pop a bead off or otherwise have a flat tire....which happens.....how do you jack the jeep up? wouldn't a hi lift jack sink in? Boards under it should give it some surface area to help.

You can also get boards for free, so meh.

michiganadam I dont think hf would want to open themselves up to the liability of selling crap recovery equipment. Just make sure its a proper weight rating. One big lawsuit could put them out of business....

I also have 8 feet of chain rated for 5400 pounds (and thats lifting!), in two 4 foot sections. You never know what youll encounter. I dont intend to use it for anything though. But what if i need something strong to hold a broken jeep together? What if i need another inch with the straps?

Did anyone mention boards? Might need a board under a jack off road. Hilift yourself out of a hole and put boards under youf tires..

I got front and back from harbor freight for ten bucks a piece and they've never failed yet and they're rated at 10k. Not big on HF for tools but they're tow hooks are good and cheap if you need new ones.

G-Mike Bottom line - recovery (snatch) straps stretch, tow straps don't.

but

Neither of these will do you any good if you don't have proper Recovery Points. Factory front tow hooks if vehicle so equipped. otherwise you will need a bumber with D-Rings or tow hooks attached to frame; rear you can get by with a receiver hitch and D-Ring hitch connector. Nearly every organized trail ride requires front and rear recovery points.

shotsy Ok what exactly is a snatch strap and what is it used for? The rest of it makes sense - just want to make sure I have everything I would need since most events would require me to travel 100+ miles

NFRs2000NYC Small tip I learned (from my own experience) if you have a winch, make sure you have 3 snatch blocks and 3 treesavers (or 2 tree savers and a tow strap.) Reverse winching is a very useful thing sometimes.

Recovery Kit must haves

Could someone please list what items are required for most off-roading events?

I would like to put a recovery kit together and have everything I have to have for most sponsored events and add to as needed.

Also anything extra that comes in handy but not necessarily required?
