It takes confidence in your engineering department to turn down a recall. If just one crash related death can be tied back to this NHTSA request, this turn down can be used against them for bigger payouts.

With the way our government seems to be running of late, I would not be surpised with bad analysis from NHTSA.

After looking at the chart of deaths per million units, don't buy a 1995-1999 Eagle Talon or Mitusbishi elclipse.
Agree! I was thinking the same thing.

jadmt and this is exactly why we will never see a recall on the cylinder head issue.

HRPinDC I read this earlier today. It looks to me that there isn't data to support the claims that the design is flawed or dangerous. It seems they're basing this on someone's subjective analysis of the design.

gsn After getting their asses bailed out by the government they shit on their bed. But then again, they are meeting the standards. But, then again... government has data of deaths due to the so called "flaw". Lawyer wars in 3, 2, 1

SilverSport Saw that too. The Feds still have the option of forcing Chrysler to do an involuntary recall.

Shocker: Chrysler tells feds 'no' on Jeep recall request

Check you fuel tank location. It only listed GCs and Liberties but it wouldn't hurt to take a look.
