JimboYJ Thought about that as well. I'll be checking the fuel pressure at the schrader valve when I get under the hood for the sensor. I've put a new fuel filter in and the fuel lines underneath look brand new. The guy I bought it off of was a nurse so who knows what I've got inside the tank.

95 YJ Surge Problem

Hey all,

New to the forum. Bought my first YJ a few months ago. 95 2.5L Automatic with 180k original miles. I have a couple recurring problems that I'm tired of living with. First, while accelerating past ~25 MPH and around 1500 RPM the engine begins to surge. Really the RPMS fall off about 2000RPM and bounce between 1500 and 2500. It's like the engine is losing and regaining power or the transmission is slipping. This seems to occur as the gas pedal is about mid position and I find that it quits if I let off the gas or mash it to the floor to kick the tranny into high gear. I've spent the last couple hours reading this forum and I think I'm going to go after the TPS to start with. Everything I'm experiencing and everything I'm reading here tend to point me in that direction. Any other tips/advice would be greatly appreciated.

My second problem is that every once in a while I'll be driving and the RPM's drop to zero. I still have power to turn signals and the radio stays on. Each time this happens I have to pull over, put it in park, wait 10-15 seconds and then she fires right back up and I keep on truckin. It tends to happen more when it's hotter outside or if I'm really working the engine over. I live in Hawaii and it's always "hot" but I seem to have extra issues with this problem on days where it's extra hot. Not sure if the temperature has anything to do with it. It seems like a coil or a pickup or something electrical that is loose. Again, any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.

Jimbo.
