|95YJ_in_NEPA||I put on the new coil and it still runs like shit, when it's idling it'll still drop down too like 100 Rpms and almost die out then rev itself up to 2000 Rpms, and when I'm in first and say I put the pedal to the floor to accelerate and it doesn't do anything right away then it does it after like 5 seconds, I just don't know what's going on with it, please help. Thank you|

|95YJ_in_NEPA||I got a coil today and I was wondering if its hard to put on, it's been raining like a SOB for the past couple of days, my check engine lights been on and it's like wanting to putter out and it accelerates like shit when I first start out when it's wet.|

no it shouldn't. They are supposed to remain sealed.
I pulled out my old one from the garage last night and looked at it close. The fins were all rusted but above them the plastic was opened up and shorting. There is a small hole about 1/4" in the plastic where the center would short to ground when mine was wet.

there only like $30 or $40.
You can be 100% sure if you start it up and spray the garden hose under the hood at your coil while its running. Its the black thing behind the alternator w/a single spark plug wire that runs to the center of the distributor cap.
Spray it with the hose, if it sputters, you'll know for sure that is the cause.

|95YJ_in_NEPA||Ok so it poured rain yesterday but I put the fuel filter on before this happened. After the rain was over fired it up and let it sit, it didn't rough idle but I'm going to try it again this morning. How much is a new coil and are those hard to change?|

|95YJ_in_NEPA||Thanks guys I just got a fuel filter today going to try that tomorrow, also got some stp fuel injector treatment hopefully that will help. I'll keep u updated, thanks all.|

|JeepTjUnlimited06||I'm sure somebody else knows more than I do on this, but I was thinking possibly a loose or bad vacuum line, bad Idler air control valve, or maybe a bad throttle positioning sensor...Everytime I ever had idle problems it had to do with one of those, so maybe try looking in that direction. Might even be a clogged up fuel filter?|

Same symptoms, replaced my coil after two years dealing with having to avoid the smallest puddle or she'd sputter. Never died, just sputtered really bad.
Couple times I did cap/rotor/wires and it still didn't help. Wasn't until I put in a new coil that those problems went away. It just lovvvves water now! Helps to rinse off all the mud lol.

Hello All, I am fairly new to wrangler forum only getting my jeep last year. I love coming on here and seeing what everyone is up too. I have a 95 Wrangler 4.0 and sometimes it idles strange. I don't know alot about mechanics so any little advice would help. it happens mostly when it's rainy but it did it the other morning when it was dry. The jeep will drop Rpms down to real low to like 100 to 200 Rpms and almost sputter out, then rev up too like 2000rpms. I can't figure it out, I just did a time up, plugs, wires, cap and rotor today but it seems it still is having trouble. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
