|Jerry Bransford||You'd only notice a difference between 33" and 35" tires if you're struggling with 33" tires & barely able to get over the obstacles with that size tire. Small incremental changes only make differences if you're barely not making it up a trail. But for sure, 1" more clearance can make a difference if you're 1" shy of making it up or over something.|

Tire size, approach angles, selectable lockers matter when you are climbing up sheetmetal, crawling on doors, walking up bumpers, etc. That is the kind of wheeling that I like to sometimes do.

With 33s, I could not get up the side of this Chrysler 300 after repeated attempts (Locked/Unlocked). Lynn drove right up, so did Powell (in the background w/All-Terrains). Both Lynn and Powell run 35s, I was running 33s at the time.
I took the same line as these guys, I tried the rear qtr panel, etc. Nothing worked with my 33s. Now, with 35s, I'd like to give it a try.

|Reznor||More or less, sure. But a 35" tire is going to put more strain on the drivetrain to perform and to haul the Jeep over things. So while it does give you the extra 1" of clearance, there are negative aspects to it as well.... and this doesn't even take into consideration the fact the D35 isn't a good idea with 35's. (Not that it's a fantastic idea with 33's either, but it'd held up for most people for at least a while)|

How big a difference is there from 31 to 32, or 32-33, or 33-35, or 35-37. See the trend lol.
A bigger tire will always be better when offroading. Its more a matter of whats important to you, and are the things that come along with bigger rubber worth it. A jeep with 33s will do just as much as the same jeep with 35s, but there will always be a time when the bigger tire will outperform.

I noticed the difference right away;
After running 35s for 4 months, 33s for 12 years, etc. I can't see myself downsizing after running this larger tire size.

It doesn't do much. A 35 will give you about an inch more of clearance at the axle over a 33 inch tire. Now an inch of clearance is the difference between being hung up and just scraping a rock, but you are correct when you say that the rigs drivetrain is more important than tire size.
I'd say that when it comes to offload capabilities, drivetrain is the most important, followed by the amount of suspension lift, followed by tire size.

How big of a difference is there between 33s and 35s on the trail?
Everyone (including my self) are always wanting to do all the upgrades to get from 33" tires to 35" tires, but now I'm pondering, how big of a difference does that extra 2" of tire clearance make on the trail? It seems to me that a tj with 33" tires and a proper gear ratio and lockers and disconnects would pretty much do the same thing as one with 35's am I wrong here?
