Cameldog I have the same problem on m 97. Never had the problem until my fuel pump went out and I replaced it. No other problems. Guess I'll need to check the fuel regulator check valve.

2000Tjtiff I have the same problem on my 2000 tj. Mechanic told me it was a jeep thing.

ChaddG sounds like your fuel pump, check your fuel pressure with a gauge, 45-54 psi is normal, above is the regulator, below is the pump.
My pump is going out and I have the same problem. running at 35 psi

I've been having the same problem for a little over a month, now. I haven't really had time to seriously look into it. I'll probably start this weekend. When it first started giving me problems, it would start on the second try. Now it might take 3-5 tries. I was thinking that it might be the fuel pump... I was thinking along the same line as JimsJeep at first. I would even turn the key on, wait five, turn off and repeat a few times before cranking it over. Sometimes that seemed to work, sometimes it didn't. In the last week or so, it definitely doesn't do anything. Gotta get my hands on a suitable gauge on the cheap...

mikeronie I had a problem with the jeep not starting a couple of days ago. Jeep is a 2012 JKU with 5900 miles. When I tried to start it the starter turned over with its normal speed but would not fire. I turned the switch off then tried it again. I cranked it for about 5 seconds--still would not start. 3 more attempts and on the 5th try it started. This was the first time with this problem. It usually starts very quickly. Jeep was driven <10 miles, sat for almost 3 hours.

Any ideas?

Mike

JimsJeep Try turning the key to ignition and count 5 before cranking. This will give your fuel pump a few seconds to pressurize the fuel rail. At minimum it will check the fuel delivery.

Kennyb28 It's turning over.... Once I stop and turn the key again it starts right up!

cixpak88 Is it turning over or just clicking when you initially turn the key? If its clicking, it's probably a dead spot int the starter - although I would clean up your battery terminals and ends before condemning the starter to see if that helps.
