Discount tire is the best...zach is the man! Always have great deals, knowledgeable staff, and they are GREAT with customer service. Probably ordered at leats 10 sets of wheels and tires and besides a missing center cap (which was overnighted without me even asking) the only issue I have ever had was a balance issue. I was worried since I am in the midwest and they don't have any stores here I would be out of luck. One call to dtd and they said take them to your local shop, fax us a copy of the receipt and we will reimburse you. I did and they promptly did exactly what they promised. I didn't have to beg or plead. Just asked once. Customer service goes a LONG way with me. It helps that their prices are among the best and they price match. Plus free shipping. No need to try anywhere else. Hell, I just did a commercial for them in this post, and I paid THEM for tires.

DBoat Bought tires from either TireRack or Discount Tire.. no issues, they will list local shops to do the install, you can buy the extended warranty, if its offered for that tire. Because they dont have to pay some of the taxes, the pricing was better online.. I have had local shops work to match their price if you bring in a printout.. but sometimes, they just cant come close.

JimsJeep I have been using Discount Tire Direct for years and the experience has always bee positive. Mounting and balancing was never a problem locally for about $80, but my sons Jeep needs tires now and the local Goodyear shops price is the same as online and they include installation. So guess what, going local this time .

JeepTjUnlimited06 I bought (5) 35" Mtr's from tire rack and it was a pretty good deal. They didn't have any with the white lettering they were sold out so I got all black (don't care for the white lettering on the outside anyway) and it was like $1200 shipped for 5 tires, then I received an $80 rebate so it was about $1,120 give or take. It was cheaper than anywhere else I could find online at the time. Maybe if I went local it could of been even cheaper, but I'm very happy with what I got.

X3 Discount tires had the cheapest prices I could find. They also had a rebate at the time plus the falcon tires I bought also had a rebate so I ended up getting $100 off total plus they have free shipping. I have a local shop that I use and he charged me 60 bucks to mount them. He told me he couldn't beat the price I got. Ended up paying 560 total for 4 31" falcon a/t

Sorry, I didn't mean Discount Tire, it was America's Tire Store....It was (5) 305/70R16 GY MTR with Kevlar for $1382 mounted and balanced. 16" metrics are always higher than 15", but compared to other places this is a deal.

s14sh3r I've used Tire Rack because there is only one tire shop in my area and his prices are high.

SurfKaster I've always started with Tirerack, but ended up local. By the time I figured in shipping, mounting, etc the local guy would match, or come really close. Discount Tire always worked with me & would give a forum discount. I recommend DT if they're in your area.

Neil F. I've used Tire Rack and Discount Time and Amazon many times. Fortunately the DE distribution warehouse is close so shipping is low. Yes I have saved money vs. local. I have in the past gotten local stores to match Tire Rack but they are very familiar with the Online sites and will add the shipping to the "matched" price so get the shipping quote from the Tire Rack site if you go that route.

As far as mounting, you can take them wherever or Tire Rack has links to local installers and you can have them sent right to them. Prices vary a lot and check the prices for oversize mountin. Some will charge a lot more.

Do a lot of calling around. The last Jeep tires I got a better deal local including Road Force balancing. Even with local chains, I found that prices varied between multiple stores because as several told me, they buy from different distributors.

gcan I've used Tire rack several times and had no problems and saved money. More than once my local guy could not or would not touch their price. But I've alsorecently bought a set of Nitto's for my truck locally, the price was about equal.
I checked both and if close then I try to deal local but I can't afford to pay hundreds more just to deal local.

Wow! What a nightmare. But bad things can happen locally as well. Several years ago I was replacing the tires on my 4Runner and ran into some problems locally at Tire King*om. The old tires were the originals that came with the car and had worn normally with no problems. I took it to Tire Kind*om because they had the best total price for the new tires. The counter guy kept pushing me to buy his $79.00 wheel alignment package. I kept declining and he kept pushing and pushing, telling me I was crazy not to get the alignment. He even produced a computer generated report showing how my tires were out of alignment.

What he did not know is that I had the alignment checked at the dealership service department the day before. They had given me a report showing the alignment was fine. He was just trying to pad his profits and make some extra money. I told him this and asked him if they do this to all their customers. Things went downhill from there. Finally the manager came out and told him to install my tires as requested.

Over the next 3-5000 miles I noticed the front driver's side tire was wearing unevenly. I knew at that point the guys at Tire Kingdom had intentionally changed the alignment on my car. I took it to the dealership and had it aligned. Will never go back to Tire Kingdom.

mrk130 I ordered from Tire Rack many times. Normally, this was because local tire shops didnt carry what I wanted and would need to order it anyway. These tires were performance tires for cars I owned previous to owning my Jeep. Also, this was back when I was working 10 years in different dealerships. The lack of labor costs was another factor in this decision.

Jgood738 I lucked out. I live a few miles from Tire Rack.

I buy local.
This has been my experience with buying from Tire Rack. They do and will ship to NTW or Discount for mounting and balancing but the shipping plus the mounting and balancing cost seems to be the deal breaker. Buy local or have them bring in for you and the shipping is on their dime.

IcarusLSC I've not ordered any for my Jeep, but did for my Lincoln I had. I bought the winter tires and rims from TireRack for about $400 less than up here. So thats a lot of flats etc I'd have to pay for to equal it out! Came with lugs, rings, road force balanced, bags. I had no issues with them and they came very quickly.

I also bought the summer tires and rims from a place out in BC for that same car, and saved almost $800 from anywhere close to here I could find!! For the first set they sent, they rubbed badly on the brake bracket (car barely moved!), so they paid to have them shipped back as I didn't want to run spacers. The next set fit great (different brand) and I had a minor issue with them as they didn't send lock nuts like they said they would so I bought them locally and they refunded me a lil money for them, which took a bit but they did in the end. They took a loss on that deal I'm sure from the set that went back, but they swore up and down they would fit!

I used to be a tire guy at a few dealers so knew what to look for and ask (like the age of the tires etc) how they are balanced etc. Ask what they will do if you have issues etc. too. And remember if there is a problem, you will have to wait for them or deal locally and pay yourself most likely, so factor in all that if you buy online...

As Jerry mentioned, I would check the warranty policy before going forward though. I wound up keeping the ones I had, but will be replacing them locally next month.

Found a great price on some Goodyear MTR's at Discount Tire right down the street.

tkfx Take a look at discount tire. They have super cheap tires and even offer a warrenty type deal where if your tire gets slashed or punctured they will replace it for the difference that you have driven it based on tread amount

speedyrev Usually shipping is a deal breaker. Tires + shipping + hassle of getting someone to mount and balance.
I buy local.

Jerry Bransford My best recommendation is to not order tires online. First, if you push them/ask them, nearly any local tire dealer can come close enough to online pricing to make it worth your while to buy locally. Next, if you have any tire problems, it's easier/better to deal face-to-face with the tire dealer rather than call their (800) number & wait for help.

Not to mention buying your tires locally helps your local economy by keeping your friends & neighbors employed.

I did that with my local Discount Tire store & they readily got close enough that I was very happy to be able to get them locally... and installed that same day.

Has anyone ordered tires from Amazon? or TireRack?

Looking at tires today online and the prices look good at Amazon and Tirerack.com.
Has anyone purchased tires online? If so, where did you take them for mounting and balancing? Did you come out any better on the total price paid?
