Pittsburghwrangler AAAAAHHHHHHH now a bigger problem, happens every time now and a whole bunch more whiteish smoke from exhaust including after I turned it off. I think it a cylinder isn't firing and the gas is burning up in the cat but what scares me is the massive amount of gas smell (I actually have a headache from it). It seems like a massive amount of gas is coming through (maybe the real problem is a stuck fuel injector?). I'm definitely having it towed down to the shop and have them check it out.

Pittsburghwrangler Ok so the problem reoccurred but minus the exhaust smoke, this time I listened to it for about 30 seconds checked out the exhaust and then turned it off... when I turned it back on like 2 seconds later the problem was gone... Im pretty confused but this time it was raining pretty hard right before this happened... could this be a problem with my coil? ive heard that water can cause an ignition problem with a bad coil but usually during a carwash or something like that

Pittsburghwrangler I just pulled the wires not the plugs, from both the distributor and the plugs. Think you're probly right just dirty, performance seemed fine (well normal you know old jeeps lol). Thanks for your help if it comes up again I'll actually take it to a shop. The advice was much appreciated

AllMudd Did you pull the plug or just the wire? Could have been a lose it dirty connection and you corrected that. I would drive it down the street see how it performance then see about the compression check.

Pittsburghwrangler Well I just took of the spark plugs one by one, they were all firing for sure because when I took each one off the engine started behaving as it was last night when the problem happened... Do you think it might have just been a fouled plug/loose wire that somehow fixed itself? I was considering having a service shop do a compression test just to check the head gasket, should I bother?

Already checked oil and it looks good, a little dirty at most. about removing the wires, I hadnt thought of that will do in the morning. the exhaust had a strong gas smell but no antifreeze, I think I am most concerned by this because I was afraid of the heat from the exhaust lighting unburnt fumes...

AllMudd Pull your dipstick and check the oil to see if is starting to look like milk chocolate. Also with it running some good gloves and a pair of pliers if needed. Take one plug wire off at a time see if it makes a difference if not that cylinder is not firing and you've found If your problem. If it does change how it runs then that cylinder is fine. Also if the exhaust smells sweet like antifreeze does more than it does like regular exhaust. Will indicate a blown head gasket.

Missing cylinder, check engine light, and gas smell.

So I drove my wrangler this morning and it was running great. I drove about 5 or 6 mi and didn't take it above 40 mph and then parked outside of my appt. Then tonight I tried to leave for the gym and when I fired it up it sounded like a cylinder was misfiring, the check engine light was on and I noticed a small amount of whitish smoke from the exhaust. I turned it off and tried playing with the spark plugs and distributor cap a bit, no change. Tried this again with no change. I made some calls to mechanic friends and one told me it might be a head gasket leak, another told me just a fouled plug. After about 10 mins I started it again and everything seemed fairly normal (just a slightly rougher idle than before) I idled it for awhile and then took a drive and noticed I had significantly less power than before (pretty bad thing with a fourbanger). Any ideas?
