|sr71||I built my own 3 point and used a 4-1 manually pulley system to hoist to ceiling. Same as above... decided to use two safety straps (blue) - just for added piece of mind.|

|Doctorsti||I'm adding a 1/2" plywood shelf 48"x70" reinforced with 2x3's. it will be held up by chains and quick links that gets hung under the fully raised top, lower the top onto it which lets the top sit on something instead of hang on the rubber seals AND you have a place to store the freedom panels in their bag. When the hard top is on the jeep you can also rest the soft top up on the shelf, dual purpose for the dual top crew. Ill post a pic when I get it hung but due to some recent surgery that won't be for another month.|

So it seems most agree it probably isn't necessary but some choose to do so for a little peace of mind...
I'm thinking that the materials are cheap, so why not add extra safety measures.

I did not add the safety straps b/c I thought the Harken was not reliable. You never know what you screwed the lag bolts into behind the drywall. could be a Knot or a split in the joist.
Like I said...probably not necessary but it helps me sleep better.

really no need, Harkin knows what they are doing and make quality products. Transatlantic racing sailboats rely on their blocks and winches to get them across the ocean.
I added a cleat on the wall to tie of the extra line but more to just keep it from hanging then for safety

I also added 4 ratchet safety straps "just because" I installed it in my garage which has an open ceiling so I just tied off the straps around the joists and put the hooks under the lip of the top on 4 corners. I have 2 kids and a car sitting under it so I would prefer the added safety of the straps

|SBL||I installed the Harkin. I am sure it is safe the way it was meant to be installed but I added 2 extra straps just in case. My kids park their bikes directly under it and wanted to be sure. The black ratcheting rope is the perfect solution. they come in a pair at home depot for about $14. I have to get a longer section of 3/8" rope to replace where I have the blue ratchet strap.|

Anyone add extra Safety measures to the 4 point Harken hardtop hoist?
My friend and I installed my 4 Point Harken Hoister for my JKU (which works as it is intended) but he stated that he'd prefer to be safer and have:
1) 'rope tie-off' anchor point to avoid accidental rope slippage if 'block' fails
2) additional safety ratchet strap(s)
He's not the one with the Wrangler Unlimited, but he said if it is was his vehicle he'd add some additional safety measures and not rely on the 'ball bearing block system' to save the top crashing down.
Anyone construct additional safety measures (post pics if possible) or just rely on the 'block'? Are his worries unwarranted ? Thanks.
