00jeeper00 Hey all, well - I replaced the TPS with an OEM one my mechanic loaned me and its like driving a brand new truck. Turns out (C.L) you were bang on in your diagnosis. Shitty aftermarket TPS.

Funny story: Local Jeep Parts supplier wants $390NZD plus tax for a new Mopar TPS . We get right royally Fu#$%ed for parts down here in New Zealand....

C.L. I've heard of people hitting similar issues with non-OEM replacement TPS. Apparently the ECU is VERY picky about the signal it gets. Mine started acting up for weeks before finally throwing a code.

From the FSM:

The TPS can be tested with a digital voltmeter.
The center terminal of the TPS is the output terminal.
With the ignition key in the ON position, check the
TPS output voltage at the center terminal wire of the
connector. Check this at idle (throttle plate closed)
and at Wide Open Throttle (WOT). At idle, TPS output
voltage should must be greater than 200 millivolts.
At wide open throttle, TPS output voltage must
be less than 4.8 volts. The output voltage should
increase gradually as the throttle plate is slowly
opened from idle to WOT.

00jeeper00 No... Will get in there and check it out. Note: Had plugs and leads replaced within the last 3 months also but the cap etc are orig.

Hi From New Zealand!!

So Ive spent a bundle trying to resolve this issue which arose after me and the truck went for a little swim. Ive trawled forums for someone with a similar problem. Most seem to have the hesitancy at idle, under load and everywhere in between...

OK, So - I've now had the trans flushed almost immediately after I swamped it to get all excess water out and it seems to be running as it should. I've replaced virtually the whole exhaust sys including headers as it had huge cracks (includes replacing upstream 02 Sensor) from whatever I hit in the creek. I've taken the throttle body off and cleaned extensively including replacing the TPS.

The only thing that still remains as follows.

While at idle I'm fine a little high maybe (1000rpm)
While foot hard down i.e. accelerating up a hill (under load) I'm fine.

When I tap the accelerator at idle there's a hesitancy from the engine almost like its gonna stall. Also when I have my foot lightly on the accelerator i.e. just driving round the block there is a sound as if I'm going back and forth from 5 to 6 cylinders...

So Im thinking even though Ive replaced the TPS it may have issues from when the vehicle was running super rich with the exhaust cracks letting 02 into the manifold. Im going to try and get an Ohmmeter to see if there are any spikes in its operation... Urgh - just want it fixed!!!
