steelers151 I have a 99 with this problem. Seems to do it more when its cold. I have searched everywhere for the source with no luck. But it is coming from the cab also.

Macman So it will do a better job of releasing rusty bolts

Bett WD-40 is not really a lubricant. It displaces moisture, then leaves a coating to slow down rust. It claims to "free sticky parts" etc. but I don't think it does as good a job as penetrating oil

CMEvans79 Just wondering what the difference between PB (Which I had never heard of until coming on the forums here and chatting) and WD40?

Macman Thanks man I'll give that a try and let you know how it works

Bett I just got a YJ a few weeks ago. The steering wheel was tight just off the center. In other words, when I turned the wheel to the left or right it was tough to move for the first few inches, then it was fine. It also had a bit of a squeak when I turned it, but if I pushed forward as I turned, no squeak.

I gave the universals on the column (open the hood, the steering column is in three sections. you can see two universals joints) a good blast with PB penetrating oil, and just a quick shot in the space between the steering wheel and the signal arm. No more sticky wheel, and the squeak is gone.

CMEvans79 ALMOST every time I turn my 99TJ to the left and back straight it squeaks a little... haven't located it yet, but it sounds like its in the cab.

NAVYCHIEF i'd say sand it down a bit. but you'd have to make sure no metal gets down on/into any electrical parts.

Squeaky steering wheel

I have an 87 wrangler and Everytime I turn the steering wheel squeaks. It's not the steering it's self. It's at the top of the steering column. Is there something I can lube up to stop that squeak?
