Chris Caldwell Thanks for the response and help. It turns out the replacement lighter I got from ebay was too short. I got another lighter and all is good now!

I had this problem with my 1997 Jeep. I had a cell phone holder/charger in my lighter socket. When, I placed my lighter element in it, it just wouldn't "set" and it kept popping out. To make a long story short, I stopped using that cell phone holder/charger, and now my cigarette element works properly. I don't know why, I can only assume that my lighter socket was being stretched out, and now it has constricted properly.

I thought that I had a bad element or a damaged socket. Go figure.

Majnoon Nope it's the lighter itself. If your getting current pushing on it your only prob is the lighter. You have 2 bad ones. Junkyards have plenty btw.

Cigarette Ligher Will Not "Set"

Hello,
When I push in the lighter on my 2000 Sahara, it will not "set" in down position. Instead, you have to keep it pushed down in order to heat it up. I've replaced the lighter part, so I'm assuming it's the socket. But was wondering if it's something that I can fix, like a metal tab or something that needs to be bent, etc. I've got the dash bezel off since I'm working on a/c control unit replacement and thought I'd try to do this repair at the same time.
