daddyjeep I ran 31's on my Jeep for a while when it was stock and only had a little rubbing on the fender flares. You should be fine with the 30's.

Angler1979 If traction is your goal then go with an more agressive tire and a front locker, AUSSIE locker or Lockrite are both great choices and can be installed with out any special tools. I have installed both and they are very similer. Also they are fairly inexpensive. you can pick one up for around $250.00 here is a great write up on the install.

4Jeepn Up country as I recall was more arch on the spring and maybe different shocks. 30's should fit fine. Most likey though over the years the springs have lost some of the arch they had, but I think you should be fine. If nothing else add some lift shackles , 1" at the most should work well.

Stock lift?

Hey Gang,

My YJ came from the factory with the 'up country suspension group'...code AWE...according to the lift companies it is a bit stiffer spring and 1" lift.

Two Q's...

1) Is this lift achieved through increased shakle lenght instead of spring curve (My springs look pretty flat)

2) The stock tires were P225/75R15's...will 30.5 x 9.5's fit on this jeep w/o a lift?

I am a trail/dirt road kind of guy, not a mudbogger or dont' need much more than what I have...jsut want a bit more traction on loose dirt/sand, so thinking of getting rid of my Wrangler street tires and goign with BFG A/T...
